Meet Dave McDonald
Rev. Dr. David McDonald, though known simply as 'Dave,' is a dedicated wedding officiant and funeral officiant with a rich background in pastoral care. Throughout his 35-year career as a parish minister, he has served churches in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin, earning both a master's and a doctorate. His mission focuses on providing meaningful ceremonies for couples—whether it's marriages, later marriages after divorce or widowhood, civil unions, blessings, or even heartfelt farewells in remembrance of those who have passed. Dave is also available for baptisms for individuals or children who desire such a rite. Known for his approachable demeanor, he recognizes that weddings and funerals often involve unpredictable family dynamics, unexpected drama, and sometimes fussy babies. With nearly 40 years of marriage and three adult children—one married, one in a 'straight' civil partnership, and one in a same-sex civil partnership—Dave brings humor and ease to tense moments.
As a versatile wedding officiant, he performs Christian, spiritual/non-denominational, and secular weddings across the United States and Canada. Many couples he has united have lived together before their ceremonies, some with children from previous relationships or expecting at the time of their wedding. For those who cannot legally marry, Dave offers a service of blessing and covenant that honors the union of two loving individuals.
In the aftermath of Covid's challenges and the isolation many faced, Dave understands that individuals may lack ties to a specific church or faith tradition. This should not hinder families from receiving the pastoral care they need during times of grief. When planning a funeral or memorial, he collaborates with families to create a meaningful service that reflects their loved one's life, making every effort to personalize the experience while respecting various religious beliefs, as well as agnostic and atheist perspectives.
